In Sub-Saharan Africa, children are not missing school because they don't want to learn, they are missing school because there is no classroom to go to. Children sit on bare floors, study under trees, and share one book among many, often with no teacher at all. Poverty, hunger, and long walks to school are ending their education before it has begun. 9 in 10 children cannot read a simple story by age 10. These are futures that should never be lost.
ARCD is restoring hope by building and renovating schools, with 250+ schools built across 32 African countries since 2019.
We're paying teachers, stocking school bags, serving daily meals, and bringing clean water and healthcare to schools, while funding scholarships that carry students from primary school through college, so every child has a chance to learn.
What it takes to keep a child in school
A child doesn't leave school because they stop wanting to learn. They leave because something is missing. These six pieces fill those gaps, one at a time, so that learning can continue year after year.

We build new schools and renovate old ones, with solid roofs, desks, and doors, so children have a real place to learn.
