Sadaqah is voluntary charity given freely at any time, in any amount, to any worthy cause. Unlike Zakat, Sadaqah is an act of pure devotion with no rules on who must give it, how much to give, or when to give it.
وَمَا تُنفِقُوا مِنْ خَيْرٍ فَلِأَنفُسِكُمْ ۚ وَمَا تُنفِقُونَ إِلَّا ابْتِغَاءَ وَجْهِ اللَّهِ
Surah Al-Baqarah (2:272)

Zakat is an obligatory form of charity — one of the Five Pillars of Islam — calculated at 2.5% of your qualifying wealth held for a full lunar year. It has specific rules about who can receive it and how much is owed. Sadaqah, on the other hand, is voluntary charity given freely at any time, in any amount, for any good cause. While Zakat is a duty, Sadaqah is an act of love — there are no fixed amounts, no deadlines, and no restrictions on who can benefit.
Yes, you may give Sadaqah on behalf of a deceased loved one, and the reward will reach them. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ confirmed that three deeds continue to benefit a person after death — one of which is ongoing charity (Sadaqah Jariyah). Donating in someone's memory is a beautiful and widely practised way to honour them and extend their blessings.
No — there is no minimum amount for Sadaqah. Even the smallest act of giving counts as charity in Islam. The Prophet ﷺ said that even half a date given in charity is accepted by Allah if given sincerely. What matters is the intention behind the gift, not the size of it. Every contribution to Africa Relief, however small, directly supports communities in need.
Sadaqah Jariyah means "ongoing charity" — a gift whose benefits continue long after it is given. Examples include building a water well, funding a school, planting trees, or supporting an orphan's education. The reward for these acts keeps flowing to the donor even after their death, as long as people continue to benefit. Projects like clean water wells and educational facilities funded through Africa Relief are classic forms of Sadaqah Jariyah.
